Meet Robin Bonner,

Miss University of Rhode Island 2011

Robin grew up in Westhampton, New York. She  was the Cheerleading captain in high school as well as a member of the student council. For her talent, she performed a ballet routine. Robin is an active sister of Alpha Phi where she held the position of Panhellenic Delegate and is the Risk Management Chair.

Robin Bonner, a University of Rhode Island junior in Textiles, was crowned Miss RI 2011 on Sunday May 22 at the statewide competition held at Rhode Island College.  A strong dancer, Bonner performed a lyrical Ballet routine to “Gravity” by Sara Barielles.  She won a $5,000 scholarship and an all expense paid trip to Las Vegas to compete for the title of Miss America which comes with a $50,000 scholarship.

Bonner won the title of Miss University of Rhode Island in a competition sponsored by The Delta Chi Fraternity in March at Edward's Auditorium.  She is an active sister of Alpha Phi where she held the positions of Pan-hellenic Delegate and Risk Management Chair.  Bonner was crowned by Emily Friedman, Miss University of Rhode Island 2010, a senior in the Doctor of Pharmacy program and a member of Lambda Kappa Sigma.

Miss America requires each contestant to choose an issue about which they care deeply and is relevant to the country.  Miss Bonner’s platform is Woman’s Cardiac Care Awareness.  “Many women do not know that they are at risk of developing heart disease or that it is the number one killer in the United States,” she told the panel of judges and audience during the question segment of the pageant.    As Miss Rhode Island she will be addressing service organizations, business, civic and media organizations to generate awareness on this topic.

The Miss America Organization is a not-for-profit organization that has maintained a tradition for many decades of empowering American women to achieve their personal  and professional goals, while providing a forum in which to express their opinions, talent and intelligence.  The Miss America Organization is one of the nation’s leading achievement programs and the world’s largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women.  Last year, the Miss America organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.
